Waikiki Beach is a great place if you like to watch people and it is a great vantage point to view Diamond Head, Oahu's signature landmark. There are beautiful, less crowded beaches on Oahu that both offer swimming, sunbathing on white sand.

Lanikai Beach is on Oahu's windward side and features breathtaking views of clear blue ocean, white sandy beaches and two small islands. You will see why it has been rated among the top 10 beaches in world for many years now.

If you really want to get away from it all, I recommend Hukilau Beach in Laie. It is not crowded and you can walk from the beach to a nearby island for even more privacy.

It is about a 30 minute drive to Kailua. On the way there, I recommend that you stop at the Pali Lookout and take in a breathtaking view of the windward side of Oahu. Jimi Hendrix was inspired to write a song on his posthumous release of "Rainbow Bridge" called "Pali Gap". There is film footage of him fighting strong winds as he walked to the viewing area. Over 200 years ago King Kamehameha gained control of the Hawaiian islands by forcing hundreds of soldiers to fall over the tall Pali cliff.

There are many land, air and sea activities on the Windward side of Oahu that you may want to explore based on your age and personal preferences. Hukilau Café in Laie is great breakfast restaurant and Romy's Shrimp stand is an excellent place to eat lunch and to take in one of the few open views of the unspoiled beauty of the North Shore.

If you visit the windward beaches in the morning, you can have time to visit the #1 paid attraction in Hawaii, the Polynesian Cultural Center.
